The PlayStation is a home video game console developed by sony computer entertainment. The PlayStation is the first video game console that sold more than 100 million units. The console was released on 3 December 1994 in Japan, 9 September 1995 in North America 29 September 1995 in Europe and 15 November 1995 in Australia. Sony introduced the PlayStation when Nintendo was leading the gaming world. Nintendo was the competitor of PlayStation at that time. Sony targeted audience included 15 to 17 years old who was not the primary focus of Nintendo. At the end of the 1996 approx 400 games were being developed for the PlayStation. The PlayStation sold 100,000 units on the first day of sale in Japan and then two million units after 6 months on the market. The success of PlayStation was partly due to Sony's third-party developer approach. The PlayStation went through a number of changes during its production. The last PlayStation unit was sold in late 2006. On 23 March 2006, it was discontinued.
